The Peak District has been named among the best places in the UK for families to visit this October half term, according to a new study by Glampingstays. The national park made the top five thanks to its scenery, walks and seasonal activities.
Why the Peak District ranks so highly
Researchers from Glampingstays found that 70 per cent of Brits would like to see more of the UK and 32 per cent want to spend more time with their families. An autumn staycation or day out can help fulfil both desires, before the weather turns.
The Peak District is known for its historic villages such as Eyam and Castleton, where visitors will find cosy cafes and pubs serving warming roasts. There are dozens of walks suitable for children, including Padley Gorge, a woodland walk along a brook.
Seasonal events and activities
Glampingstays experts recommend pumpkin picking at Hassop Family Farm in Bakewell, which runs for two days only on October 24 and 25. Chatsworth House's bonfire and fireworks festival takes place on October 30 and 31.
For a last-minute stay, a glamping pod offers the experience of the outdoors with more comforts than camping. Glampingstays has options available on its website.
Other recommended destinations
Another spot close to Greater Manchester is Eryri (Snowdonia) in North Wales, recommended for mountain scenery and adventurous activities. Ffear Fforest runs at Zip World Betws-y-Coed from October 9 to November 1, while younger children can enjoy woodland walks and waterfall visits.
Further afield, Glampingstays recommends Hampshire's New Forest for ancient woodland walks and abbey visits, the Norfolk Broads for flat paths, wide skies and boat trips, and Loch Ness and Inverness in Scotland for lochs and a wild coastline.
