A road trip through the Lake District has been named the third best in the UK, according to a new ranking by digital car finance lender Carmoola in collaboration with travel expert Gemma Logan of The Brighton Bucket List.
The route follows the A591 road through the heart of the national park, covering approximately 80 to 100 miles depending on the chosen loop. It starts in Windermere and passes through Grasmere, Keswick, Coniston and Borrowdale before returning to Windermere.
While the drive itself takes three to four hours of continuous driving, experts recommend experiencing it over two to three days to fully explore the area. The trip is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and hikers, but also offers a way to enjoy the scenery from the comfort of a car.
Gemma Logan noted a shift towards slower, more meaningful travel, highlighting that road trips offer freedom and flexibility. The top spot was claimed by Scotland's North Coast 500, followed by a coast-to-coast loop in Cornwall. Another northern route, through the Yorkshire Dales and Moors, came in fourth place.
