A new Channel 4 documentary has revealed the final words of Jay Slater, the 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, who vanished in Tenerife in June 2024 and was later found dead. His friend Lucy Law, who was the last person to speak to him, described his desperate state during a call to Spanish emergency services.
In previously unheard audio from the call, Lucy told police: "My friend, he's met some people, and they've drove him up into the mountains. I don't know why and he's left the house." She recounted that Jay said he could not return, adding: "Yes, said he feels like he's going to die up there, and then the phone cut off."
The documentary also features final text messages and CCTV footage from the night he disappeared. At 2:40am, Jay texted Lucy: "Can't get in Papagayo they got marker on me." After she replied offering to come out, he responded: "Doesn't matter it's OK. I on a mission." He was last seen on CCTV at Tramps Nightclub at 3:07am.
Jay's body was discovered in a ravine in Parque Rural de Teno on July 15, 2024, after a month-long search. A coroner's report indicated he had told friends he was "in the middle of the mountains" and in need of a drink, having attempted a 14-hour walk home after taking drugs and alcohol.
