Direct Liverpool to Llandudno train runs through summer holidays
Direct Liverpool-Llandudno train runs this summer

The direct Transport for Wales (TfW) service between Liverpool and Llandudno is still running over the summer holidays. Timetable changes reported on Sunday, May 17 now include the direct link, putting the seaside town less than two hours away and giving families without a car a new option for trips to the coast. The route takes in budget-friendly North Wales seaside towns that have been popular with generations of families from Merseyside.

Seaside stops along the route

Llandudno is home to the Great Orme, a limestone headland rising 200 metres above the sea. Visitors can walk to the top or use the Great Orme Tramway for views over the town. The resort has twin West and North Shore beaches, with West Shore Beach much quieter than the North Shore. Llandudno Pier, the longest pier in Wales, was originally built in 1876 and offers ice cream, arcades and family fun.

Prestatyn is known for its beaches, promenade and holiday camps loved by many Scouse families. A key draw on the beachfront is the Nova, one of North Wales' biggest indoor visitor attractions, featuring a three-storey, beach-themed indoor adventure soft play centre and a Beach Hut Café and Bar with views of the Prestatyn coast.

Rhyl is undergoing a £20m regeneration project to enhance the seaside resort, driven by Rhyl Neighbourhood Board and the Ein Rhyl/Our Rhyl campaign. One of the town's most recent additions is the Queen's Market, which opened on July 10, 2025. The food hall and market cost over £12m and include 16 individual food and retail units, a bar and a large event space.
