Benidorm's 'Spooky' Weather Disrupts Holidays as Thick Mist Descends

A British expat living in Benidorm has expressed being 'freaked out' by a recent bout of 'spooky' weather that is significantly impacting holidays in the popular Alicante resort. Harry Poulton, who moved to the region from the UK and shares travel insights on TikTok via his account @harrytokky, documented the unsettling meteorological phenomenon that has left the area shrouded in an eerie mist.

Eerie Atmosphere and Disrupted Plans

In a short video clip, Poulton described the scene as 'extremely spooky', noting that the extreme Benidorm mist had arrived, making it difficult to see rooftop buildings. He continued his recording down to the beach, where he pointed out to his 50,000 followers that you could 'barely see the sea'. With no one around during his filming, he admitted the natural occurrence had left him feeling unsettled.

'It's awfully gone cold in the last few minutes,' Harry added. 'Some strange things are happening in Benidorm tonight (February 23). One minute it's absolutely lovely and it's clear skies - and the next it's this extremely strange mist has appeared in Benidorm.' After reaching the seafront, he characterized the situation as 'eerie' and 'freaky', even pondering whether snow could be next for the typically mild resort.

Local Reactions and Weather Patterns

The mist was not limited to nighttime hours. Benidorm Now also captured footage, commenting: 'Levante Beach swallowed by thick mist. Benidorm’s famous Levante Beach looks completely different today as a thick mist rolls in and covers the skyline! It almost feels mysterious and unreal… have you ever seen it like this before?' Locals added that the fog was silently creeping in, swallowing lights and turning the city into pure mystery, creating a calm yet unnerving atmosphere.

While the fog has alarmed some locals and tourists, it is important to note that Benidorm's weather in February can be variable. Typically, the resort experiences mild conditions with daytime temperatures ranging from 12°C to 18°C and nighttime lows between 6°C and 10°C. Although it is sunnier and warmer than northern Europe, February is not hot enough for typical beach weather and is one of the wettest months, with rain being relatively common.

This unexpected weather event has certainly derailed plans for those expecting clear skies and beach days, highlighting how meteorological surprises can affect travel experiences in this holiday hotspot.
