Met Office maps show rain covering Wales by 10pm tonight

Rain will cover most of Wales by 10pm tonight, according to Met Office weather maps. The band of rain moves in from the west during the evening, bringing an end to the dry conditions experienced this summer.

The forecast for Tuesday, August 18, says: "Today: A rather cloudy day with the chance of the odd shower, mainly in the north and west. Most places staying dry with periods of hazy sunshine. Breezier and somewhat fresher but still feeling rather warm for the time of year. Maximum temperature 23 °C."

Rain arrives in the evening

Scattered showers will begin in the early afternoon, mainly in the north and west, but more consistent rainfall will develop later on. By 8pm, rain will be mostly in Mid and West Wales. By 9pm, rain will move from the west and scatter across the country, with South Wales also becoming wet.

By 10pm, only small areas across Wales will remain dry as the band of rain covers the majority of the country. Rain will continue overnight and into the early hours of Wednesday, but will clear by 5am in most areas, excluding Aberystwyth, Bala, and near Porthmadog.

Cooler and fresher overnight

The overnight forecast states: "Dry to start but rain moves in from the west. Mostly light but turning showery into the early hours. Showers ease by dawn becoming isolated. Feeling fresher and less humid. Minimum temperature 12 °C."

The rain will break the humid air, providing relief from the hot nights experienced this summer. Showers will make the air feel "fresher and less humid" overnight.

Wednesday outlook

Wednesday is expected to have temperatures around, or just below average for this time of year. The Met Office forecast for Wales on Wednesday states: "The odd isolated shower remains through the day, but most places staying dry with bright and sunny spells. Temperatures around, or just below average for the time of year. Maximum temperature 21 °C."
