An 80-year-old man endured a terrifying night trapped on Snowdon in freezing conditions before being rescued by a dedicated mountain rescue team.
The elderly hiker became stranded near the summit of Wales' highest peak as temperatures plummeted overnight. The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team launched a dramatic operation to save him after receiving an emergency call.
The Harrowing Ordeal
The pensioner had set out for what should have been a routine hike but found himself in serious trouble as weather conditions deteriorated rapidly. With darkness falling and temperatures dropping below zero, he was forced to spend the night exposed on the mountainside.
Rescuers described challenging conditions during the operation, with strong winds and freezing temperatures making the rescue particularly difficult. The team worked through the night to locate and extract the vulnerable man.
Heroic Rescue Efforts
The Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team sprang into action after receiving the distress call. Experienced volunteers battled treacherous conditions to reach the stranded octogenarian.
'This was an extremely challenging rescue in very difficult conditions,' said a spokesperson for the rescue team. 'The gentleman was in a precarious position when we found him, and we're just relieved we could bring him to safety.'
The rescued man was treated for exposure but is expected to make a full recovery. Mountain safety experts have used the incident to remind walkers to check weather forecasts and be properly prepared before attempting climbs.
