Why Liverpool's Sky Glowed Pink as Met Office Predicts Heavy Rain
Why Liverpool's Sky Glowed Pink as Heavy Rain Predicted

The sky over the River Mersey turned an unusual shade of rosy pink last night, a strange phenomenon that left some residents puzzled. The eerie glow emanated from the Everton stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

LED Lights Behind the Pink Glow

The pink skies were caused by LED lights at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which are used to maintain the playing field and accelerate the growth and repair of the pitch between matches. Though not always visible to the naked eye, occasionally weather conditions mean the lights can be seen far and wide in the skies above the stadium.

Met Office Forecast for Merseyside

Heavy rain has been predicted by the Met Office for Liverpool today following several days of unseasonably warm weather. Temperatures reached 19C in the city on Monday, October 5, significantly higher than what would usually be expected for mid-autumn.

September was the joint-fourth warmest on record for the UK as a whole, following this year's trend of above-average forecasts nationwide. Mild temperatures are expected to continue until late this month, when forecasters predict "a changeable pattern overall with weather systems often moving in from the Atlantic." These will bring showers or longer spells of rain at times, with the wettest and windiest weather in the northwest, drier in the southeast.

The country is on track for one of its warmest years on record, according to the Met Office. Today, October 7, saw showers overnight after several days of dry weather. Further downpours are expected later in the day from 12pm, with temperature highs of 13C.
