The Met Office has issued a series of fresh weather warnings for the United Kingdom, with heavy rain and strong winds set to bring disruption to several regions in the coming days.
Warnings in Force Across Multiple Regions
Yellow weather warnings for rain and wind have been issued for Wales and south-west England. These are active from Monday evening until Tuesday evening. The affected areas stretch from Hampshire to Cornwall and include north Wales.
Separate yellow warnings are also in place. North-west England is under a rain warning from midnight on Tuesday, while north-west Scotland faces a wind warning from Tuesday afternoon.
Potential Impacts and Public Safety Advice
The national forecaster has cautioned that the conditions could lead to significant travel disruption, possible power cuts, and spray or large waves along coastal areas. A key concern is the risk of flooding from fast-flowing or deep water, which could pose a danger to life.
Properties are also at risk, with potential flooding for homes and businesses. The Met Office has warned that some communities could become cut off due to the deluge.
Unsettled Pattern Set to Continue
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates stated that a deepening area of low pressure is responsible for the incoming severe weather. He indicated that this unsettled pattern is expected to continue throughout December, leading to further potential disruption.
The warnings come as the charity St Mungo's issued an orange cold weather alert for homeless people in London, highlighting the broader public health challenges posed by the deteriorating conditions.
