New weather maps show parts of England could soon bask in temperatures expected to reach 26C, in what forecasters suggest could be the last hot spell of the year. The warm conditions are anticipated to begin on Tuesday, September 22, when a plume of hot air moves northeastwards from the continent.
Where temperatures will peak
Maps from WXCharts.com show much of the East of England and the Southeast of England will experience the hottest burst for several days. Temperatures across the country will rise, and be largely warmer than the typical conditions for late September.
Nottingham, for instance, usually sees 18C for September but forecasters indicate 25C could be on the cards there. Further north, it could be around 21C in Manchester during the warm spell - a jump from the typical September high of 17C there.
Dry and warm across the UK
The maps indicate Northern Ireland will experience a balmy end to the month too, and little rain is forecast across the whole of the UK. The temperatures, poised to be between 19C and 26C across the majority of the nation, are a climb from the 13C and 14C recorded across parts of the country on Sunday.
Beaches, especially those across the East of England and Southeast of England, are likely to be busy for the last time of the year as the month ends. The mercury could reach 22C at Great Yarmouth in Norfolk.
Met Office outlook
A Met Office forecast covering Tuesday, 22 September, stated "there is scope for some rather warm days at times," but also added the weather will remain changeable.
The full forecast, as reported by the Express, reads: "Remaining changeable, with occasional rain or showers arriving from the North Atlantic, most frequent across northern and western parts of the UK, where some strong winds will also be possible at times."
"However, there will also be some reasonably dry and more settled periods interspersed, especially across southern areas, with a chance these may extend to more of the UK later in the period."
"Temperatures for the period as a whole will probably be close to average overall, but there is scope for some rather warm days at times, along with occasional relatively cool nights, giving the occasional grass frost."
Monday has been particularly wet, and further rain is expected across Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland. It will be heavy at times, particularly across County Antrim this afternoon and East Ayrshire later tonight.
