Yacht Runs Aground on Northumberland Coast, Rescue Teams Respond

Rescue teams were called to reports of a yacht that had run aground on the shoreline north of Seaton Sluice on Monday morning. The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) and the Blyth Coastguard Rescue Team were dispatched to the scene, providing support to the yacht's owner while securing the vessel on the Northumberland coast. The boat has since been deemed not seaworthy.

Pre-Dawn Rescue Operation

The early morning call-out came at 3:40 am, involving ten members from TVLB. The yacht's owner and two dogs were taken to a "place of safety," according to TVLB officials. In an online update, TVLB stated: "Early this morning TVLB & Blyth Coastguard Rescue Team were called out to reports of a yacht ashore just north of Seaton Sluice harbour. The teams assisted the owner and their two dogs to a place of safety and after ensuring they were fit and well, helped them make their way home."

Yacht Secured, Recovery Planned

Unfortunately, the yacht is not seaworthy and will now need to be recovered. TVLB warned the public: "Please do not attempt to board the yacht - although currently secured, it may be subject to movement during high tides." The teams attending the scene located the yacht's owner safely on the shore with two dogs, but the boat itself was found to be not seaworthy. TVLB said it had been secured to "avoid it becoming a hazard to shipping." The rescue teams were stood down at 5:40 am.
