Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) have issued updates on the progress of moorland blazes at Tintwistle Moor and near Dovestone Reservoir, urging the public to avoid the area to support firefighting efforts.
Derbyshire Fire Service Update
DFRS reported that they are being assisted with equipment including drones, argocats, and unimogs to tackle the blaze, alongside beaters and water backpacks. The service asked the public to 'support their crews' by staying off moorland and avoiding the area entirely.
Greater Manchester Fire Service Update
GMFRS stated that their crews 'worked hard through the night' and have made progress at Dovestone and Swineshaw. A spokesperson said: 'Specialist units, fire engines and support crews remain on site at both areas supported by partner agencies. Air support is also being used to assist firefighting efforts where conditions allow. While progress has been made in both the Dovestone area, where a fire began on Saturday evening, and at Swineshaw, which we have been dealing with since yesterday, this remains a complex and active incident.'
Impact and Public Response
The fires, which began over the weekend, have prompted a multi-agency response. The public is advised to avoid the moorland areas to allow emergency services to operate effectively. No injuries have been reported, but the situation remains under close monitoring.
