Russian drone attack sinks ship off Bulgaria coast

A suspected Russian drone attack has struck two vessels off the coast of Bulgaria in the Black Sea, sinking one of the ships. The incident occurred roughly 15 miles (24 kilometres) from Bulgaria's coastline.

Bulgarian Prime Minister condemns attack

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev said: "Another attack on merchant ships in the immediate vicinity of Bulgarian territorial waters is absolutely unacceptable. Our permanent representative to NATO and our permanent representative to the European Union have been notified. I am scheduled to speak with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte."

He added: "We do not have solid and clear evidence to bring charges against any of the parties, but logic, as I have already stated, indicates that the result is in favour of the Russian Federation. Therefore, today I will summon Ambassador Mitrofanova for a conversation."

Rescue operation under way

Bulgarian media reported that the country was carrying out a search and rescue operation in the area, with seven Ukrainian nationals and eight Azerbaijani citizens pulled from the stricken vessel after it was hit by three drones.
