Lufthansa flight LH470, travelling from Frankfurt to Toronto Pearson International Airport, was diverted and forced to make an unscheduled landing following a mid-air emergency over Scotland.
According to flight tracking data, the crew triggered a squawk 7700 alert while the Boeing 747-430, registered as D-ABVY, was cruising at 32,000 feet. The aircraft had departed Germany at 3pm local time and passed over the Netherlands before proceeding as planned for the first 90 minutes of the journey.
Emergency over Scotland
As the jet travelled over Scotland, it initiated a sudden left turn and issued the international transponder code for a general emergency onboard, according to Air Live.
Air Traffic Control guided the aircraft towards Manchester Airport for an urgent arrival. It landed safely on Runway 23R at 3.37pm local time.
Flight rescheduled
The flight was then rescheduled to depart Manchester Airport at 5.15pm local time to Toronto. Lufthansa has been contacted for comment by the Mirror.
