Emirates Dubai-London flight declares mid-air emergency

An Emirates flight travelling from Dubai to London declared a mid-air emergency and was forced to divert to Frankfurt.

The flight, EK31, departed Dubai International Airport (DXB) at 11.25am local time on Thursday and issued a 'squawk' code 7700, the international signal for a general emergency.

Diversion to Frankfurt

Instead of continuing to its scheduled destination of London Heathrow, the aircraft diverted to Frankfurt, Germany.

The airline later confirmed the diversion was due to a passenger on board suffering a medical emergency.
