A British Airways flight was diverted to Manchester Airport after a passenger was taken ill on board. The Manchester Evening News understands the person involved may have suffered a seizure and was taken to hospital from the airport after the plane landed. The flight involved was British Airways flight BA1301 from Aberdeen to London Heathrow. Flight tracking websites said it transmitted a code indicating a general emergency in the aftermath of the passenger taking ill. The Airbus A320 left Aberdeen at 10.35am today and diverted towards Manchester as it was flying over Lancaster. The plane landed at Manchester safely just before noon and has now been cancelled.
Passengers rebooked and airline response
Other passengers on board the flight are expected to be placed on alternative flights to London Heathrow later on Wednesday. A spokesperson for British Airways said: "We're sorry for the disruption to our customers' journeys. Our flight diverted to Manchester due to a customer requiring medical attention on board. Our teams are working hard to rebook passengers onto the next available flight to Heathrow." No further details have been revealed.
