Sony has announced a £40 price increase for the PS5 Digital Edition, raising the cost from £390 to £430. The company blames inflation and currency fluctuations, though the US market is unaffected despite tariffs on Chinese-manufactured consoles. The hike is expected to take effect soon, prompting a rush on remaining discounted stock.
UK retailers are still offering significant savings. EE is selling the PS5 Digital Edition bundle with Astro Bot for £329, saving £100 off the new price. Argos, Very, and Sports Direct offer the same bundle for £339. Amazon lists the standalone Digital Edition at £344.46, while Argos and John Lewis have it at £389.99 and £389 respectively, though these prices may rise.
For those on a tighter budget, Sony’s refurbished original 2020 PS5 Digital Edition is available for £299.99 directly from the company. The console is cleaned, tested, and comes with a warranty, but requires a PlayStation Network account to purchase.
The standard PS5 Slim with a disc drive is also discounted. EE offers the console with Astro Bot for £389.99, £10 less than rivals. This version supports physical games, which can be cheaper and tradeable, unlike the Digital Edition. A detachable disc drive is available for £69.99 if users change their minds later.
With GTA 6 expected this autumn, demand for PS5 consoles is likely to rise. Shoppers are advised to act quickly before the price increase takes full effect across all retailers.
