Warhorse Studios, the developer behind the award-winning medieval RPG series Kingdom Come: Deliverance, has confirmed it is working on a new open-world game set in JRR Tolkien's Middle-earth. The announcement on social media puts an end to months of speculation about the project.

A post on X read: "You might have heard the rumours, it's time to reveal what we are working on." It listed "an open world Middle-earth RPG" alongside "a new Kingdom Come adventure," adding: "We're excited to tell you more when the time is right." An accompanying image offered no further details on the setting, timeline, or characters.

The news has generated significant excitement among fans, with one user on X writing: "YO HUUUUGE!" Another commented: "Really excited for this project. Considering how robust the systems KCD2 had, I'm curious to see what you have in mind for this one." Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 recently won a BAFTA for Narrative and was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards.

No release date has been announced for either project. As Warhorse only released Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in early 2025, the Middle-earth RPG is likely still some way off.
