Sky WiFi boost: move router away from common household items

Sky has shared free tips for improving home WiFi, including moving the hub away from common household electronics that can interfere with the signal.

Simple changes for stronger WiFi

According to Sky's website, there are 'simple ways to get stronger, more reliable WiFi at home.' The company notes that 'small changes can make a big difference.'

Sky explains that every home is different, and so is every WiFi setup. Common reasons for weak signals include distance from the hub, thick walls, floors, large furniture, older devices, and the number of people online at once.

Keep electronics away from your hub

Sky advises: "Keep it away from electronics. Microwaves, cordless phones and even baby monitors can interfere with WiFi. Move these types of devices away from your hub." It also recommends keeping the hub off the floor, out from behind the TV, and away from cupboards.

Another tip is to use wired devices when possible. "Wired devices don’t have to compete for signal so it’s a great option for TVs, consoles or desktop computers that don’t move around," Sky said. "This will also free up WiFi signal for other devices in your home."

Additional options for boosting signal

For those needing extra coverage, Sky suggests: "A WiFi booster or a mesh system can help pick up the signal from your hub and get it travelling further around your home."

Sky Broadband customers can use a service checker to verify their hub's performance. Those with Sky WiFi Max receive a wall-to-wall WiFi guarantee and the latest Sky Max Hub, which is designed for a stronger, more stable connection, and allows prioritising a device when needed.
