Reckless behaviour on city streets
Kevin Lloyd, writing from Highbury, London, responds to Andy Beckett's article on Lime bikes and the broader changes in urban areas, including housing costs. Lloyd acknowledges this context but argues it does not excuse the impunity shown by ebike users.
He cites examples such as riding through red lights, ignoring traffic at junctions, wearing headphones but rarely helmets, using phones while riding, weaving to maintain conversations, and riding too fast on shared paths. He also questions the practice of riding after drinking.
Call for regulation and liability
Lloyd, a helmet-wearing cyclist, expresses frustration at dodging riders who seem unfamiliar with bikes and traffic. He argues that behaviour needs to change through regulation, with riders and suppliers held liable for the consequences of their actions, which can sometimes be serious.
