Manchester United could pursue regulatory and possibly legal action against anyone who negotiates or facilitates the departure of young player JJ Gabriel, according to reports. The news comes as Barcelona are reportedly ready to let left-back Alejandro Balde move on loan in January.
United return to Premier League action against Tottenham in six days, with head coach Michael Carrick hoping for improved results. Before the international break, United had earned just five points from their first five league games.
JJ Gabriel exit saga intensifies
Gabriel, one of United's most promising young players, formally requested last month that his youth registration be cancelled with immediate effect. United denied the request, but Gabriel turns 16 on Tuesday, October 6, which could allow him to get his wish.
Because he qualifies for an EU passport through his Irish and Cypriot heritage, Gabriel could sign for clubs on the continent. Despite Barcelona publicly denying interest, he has been training in Catalonia. Real Madrid are also rumoured to be interested, and United would only receive a modest compensation fee if he departs.
Ali Barat, founder of Epic Sports agency, has stepped in to manage Gabriel and has obtained formal authorisation to represent minors on Gabriel's family's behalf. Talks with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have reportedly been arranged.
Barcelona open to Balde loan
Barcelona are ready to let Balde move on loan in January, according to TEAMtalk. The left-back has fallen down the pecking order at the Nou Camp behind Xavi Espart and others.
Balde's representatives are now working to facilitate a move away from Barcelona. United had considered him in the summer before focusing on other targets. The club reportedly believe that, at 22, Balde has a high ceiling and can develop into a key defender if he recaptures his best form. He missed out on a spot in Spain's World Cup-winning squad.
