Liverpool remain active in the summer transfer window, with new interest in Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr emerging while Bradley Barcola continues to be a primary target. Barcola backed for Liverpool move
Barcola's potential move to Liverpool has just a few days remaining to materialise. The Reds have been engaged in extensive negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain for several weeks regarding the France international.
In what would mark his first footballing venture beyond France, the left-winger has received backing from former Manchester United and Everton striker Louis Saha. The ex-France star told Mr Gamble: "Bradley Barcola would be a top-level signing. He's quick, he can provide assists to other players and score goals as well, so it's easy to see why Arsenal and Liverpool are taking a look at him."
Saha referenced Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah's versatility when questioned whether Barcola is capable of performing on the right wing. He said: "He can cross the ball really well. So yes, Barcola can play whether he's on the left side or the right side, and it is too restrictive to think a player can only play on one side or another.
"It is these ideas that are killing the game. Players should not be defining themselves in this way. You're a left-sided player? No, no. Please! Stop that. Look at Sadio Mane. He played on the right for Liverpool. They signed Mohamed Salah so he played on the left. In his first World Cup tournament for France.
"Kylian Mbappe played on the right. He was playing on the left in his second World Cup. In his third World Cup this summer, he was the striker."
Ismaila Sarr interest emerges
Liverpool's chase for attackers has been one of the most dominant narratives of the transfer window. A move for Barcola remains a possibility, although their brief pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion star Yankuba Minteh appears to be precisely that.
It now appears as though the Reds have switched their focus to Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr. Sarr is no stranger to Liverpool – and not merely for his performances with Watford and Palace. He featured on a three-man shortlist during the summer of 2020 while at Vicarage Road.
A deal for the 28-year-old would come in at around the £50million mark, although the ECHO understands that Liverpool are continuing to run the rule over the market as they search for the right mix of wingers before deadline day.
