LIV Golf has announced major staff redundancies just months after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) pulled back its financial backing. While the exact number of redundancies is unclear, reports claim the majority of staff have been laid off as a result of funding being withdrawn.
The organisation announced the job losses just days after its 2026 season in Indianapolis came to an end. The future of the golf circuit is unclear, with Skratch Golf claiming LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil was told by Yasir Al-Rumayyan's lieutenant that the organisation would 'not get another dollar.'
Statement on scaling back operations
In a statement to Golf Digest, a LIV spokesperson said: "The funding commitment announced by PIF earlier this year will reach its conclusion. As a result, we are scaling back operations as we transition to the next chapter of LIV Golf and work toward making LIV 2.0 a reality."
"This week, we informed many of our colleagues that their employment under LIV 1.0 will end in the first week of September. We are grateful to our employees for their hard work and dedication in building LIV Golf, and we remain committed to supporting those affected through this transition."
Hatton responds to exit rumours
Rumours have been rife regarding the future of high-profile stars on the LIV Golf circuit, and Tyrrell Hatton added fuel to the fire about a possible exit by entering the final event at Indianapolis to Queen's son 'I Want To Break Free.'
LIV Golf is in talks with a new financier to fill the void left by Saudi Arabia's PIF fund, though an investor has not yet been confirmed. When asked whether fans could read into his choice of walk-on music, Hatton told Golf Magic: "No. To be honest, I haven’t thought about that."
When asked about his future in LIV Golf, he said: "I’ve got enough to worry about, we’re playing golf for the rest of the year. I’ve still got multiple years left in my contract, I believe. And as I said, I’ve got plenty of tournaments this year, so there’s nothing really to focus on other than the golf."
