Kilmarnock are set to sign goalkeeper Dave Richards on a short-term contract to ease their goalkeeping issues. The Welshman has been a free agent since leaving Dundee United in the summer and will sign an initial deal at Rugby Park until January.
Move prompted by Stryjek injury
Killie boss Neil McCann has moved for the 32-year-old as Max Stryjek is expected to be out until well into the new year with a knee issue. McCann wants another experienced shot-stopper to push and compete with Calum Ferrie, who made his Premiership debut in the draw with Hearts before the international break.
Richards has kept himself ticking over by training at Port Vale this season. He has previous Premiership experience with both St Johnstone and Dundee United.
Previous spell at Dundee United
Richards was offered a new deal at Tannadice at the end of the season but decided to turn that down. He has travelled north to begin training with Killie and complete his move.
Richards is expected to go into the Kilmarnock squad for the trip to Rangers a week on Saturday.
Goalkeeping upheaval at Killie
Stryjek's injury is a blow to the player and Killie. The brave Pole has only recently come back from heart surgery.
There has been a fair bit of upheaval on the goalkeeping front at Killie. Record Sport revealed earlier this week that goalkeeping coach Fraser Stewart is set to leave to take up a similar position with Newcastle United's under-21s. That decision has left McCann looking to fill that role on his backroom team.
McCann is looking for his team to continue their revival after the break. They made a slow start but are looking to pull themselves off the bottom of the table.
