Thousands of users are unable to access their Yahoo Mail and AOL accounts after a major outage struck on Monday afternoon. According to reports on the Down Detector website, the disruption began around 3 p.m. BST, with 55% of users facing server disruptions, 31% unable to access the website, and 14% experiencing login page issues.
Users took to social media to report errors such as 'upstream connect error' and 'server is rejecting login.' One user noted that while the Mail app on iPhone and webmail worked, Outlook was affected. The outage mirrors a similar incident on June 26, which impacted users globally from New Mexico to Japan.
Down Detector comments revealed recurring phrases like 'No Healthy Upstream,' indicating ongoing frustration. This latest disruption follows a history of security breaches at Yahoo, including a 2014 attack that compromised 500 million accounts, eight million of which were from the UK. Another breach in 2016 affected one billion users.
At the time of writing, Yahoo and AOL have not issued an official statement regarding the cause or expected resolution time of the outage.
