Google has urged billions of Chrome users to update their browser after a critical security flaw was discovered. The vulnerability, known as a 'zero-day' exploit, was found before a fix was available, making it a high-risk threat.
The bug affects users on Windows, Mac, and Linux desktops. The latest update, version 99.0.4844.84, includes 11 security fixes, with nine rated 'high', one 'medium', and one 'critical'. Users can update by clicking the three dots in the top-right corner of the browser and following the prompts.
Microsoft has also issued a fix for its Edge browser, which shares the same vulnerability. Google has limited details about the flaw to prevent hackers from exploiting it, stating that access to bug details will be restricted until most users are updated.
This is not the first zero-day vulnerability in Chrome; a previous one was exploited by North Korea, targeting US organisations in news media, IT, cryptocurrency, and fintech sectors.
