Britain’s fastest woman, Dina Asher-Smith, has been beaten by Vodafone’s new SuperMobile plan in a head-to-head speed test. The challenge: could the mobile plan download her 150-track training playlist before she completed a 200 metre sprint? It did – in 21.2 seconds, quicker than the 21.88 seconds she ran to win gold at the 2019 Athletics World Championships.
A Playlist Built for Speed
The sprint champion’s high-tempo playlist features favourites including Beyoncé, Dave, Skepta and Kendrick Lamar, and is a training must-have. With a need for mobile download speeds that match her pace on the track, she was the natural choice to test Vodafone’s new plan.
Powered by Vodafone’s 5G+ FastTrack, SuperMobile boasts speeds up to four times faster than standard plans. The playlist, containing around 9 hours of music, downloaded in just 21.2 seconds – enough music to soundtrack an entire flight to Mumbai or Barbados, or a full day at work and the commute home.
“Every Second Counts”
Asher-Smith said: “As a sprinter, every second counts, so I was genuinely impressed that Vodafone SuperMobile managed to beat me! Speed is obviously a huge part of my life, both on and off the track, and music plays a big role in my training and getting me ready to run fast. Whether I’m downloading a playlist or sharing training videos on the go, I want my mobile plan to keep up”.
A Vodafone spokesperson said: “If you're going to test Vodafone SuperMobile, you need someone who knows a thing or two about speed. Dina is the fastest British woman ever, making her the perfect person to take on our new super-fast mobile plan.”
Connectivity Matters to the Nation
Super fast speeds aren’t just in demand for Olympians, as 63% of the nation say they value fast, reliable connectivity more than ever. That includes connecting with friends and family (32%), entertainment such as streaming TV, films and music (30%), staying connected on the go (25%) or working or studying from home (15%).
Research from Vodafone shows sluggish speeds stop people in their tracks. More than a quarter of Brits (26%) say they get frustrated when payments won’t process, buffering maps leave them lost (21%), videos won’t play (19%) and playlists won’t download (10%) thanks to subpar connection.
Those precious seconds can mean missing out, with two in five (40%) saying they have lost out on something important because their connection was too slow, including 14% who have missed out on online shopping deals or items selling out, food delivery slots (11%), appointments (10%) and even festival tickets (9%).
Powered by the UK’s fastest 5G+ network, Vodafone SuperMobile combines faster speeds, guaranteed minimum speeds, and advanced security in a single mobile experience designed around performance, reliability and peace of mind – helping customers stay connected at speed, wherever the race takes them. The showdown is available to watch on YouTube, and Asher-Smith’s ‘FastTracks’ playlist, made in partnership with Vodafone, is available on Spotify.
