Verstappen wins Bahrain GP, Hamilton third

Max Verstappen recorded his first win of the 2026 season at the twice-delayed, rain-affected Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.

The start time was pushed back 93 minutes following heavy rain before the 55 laps were twice disrupted by two Safety Cars.

Race results and podium

But Verstappen managed to come out on top, with Drivers' Championship leader Kimi Antonelli securing second place and Lewis Hamilton coming back from 18th to earn third and a spot on the podium.

George Russell, meanwhile, was running third but was forced to retire during the second Safety Car after a suspected power unit failure hit his car. Charles Leclerc, Isaac Hadjar and Oscar Piastri completed the top six.

Championship standings

Antonelli is now 84 points clear at the top of the Drivers' Standings with seven races to go. Barring a drastic collapse, it's looking like the Italian is going to become a world champion for the first time.
