UK's Best Lido Named: Brockwell Lido Tops AA's League

Brockwell Lido in south London has been named the UK's best lido for another year, scoring 72.58 out of 100 in the AA's refreshed Lido League. The 50-metre Art Deco pool, set within Brockwell Park near Brixton, first opened in 1937.

Top Lidos Revealed

The AA visited more than 160 open-air pools, swimming lakes and tidal pools to compile the top 20 destinations. Research considered review scores, entry and parking costs, and local sunshine and temperature data.

Interest in open-air swimming is rising, with Google searches for 'lidos near me' hitting 74,000 in June, up 309% year-on-year, and 'outdoor pools near me' reaching 40,500, up 400% year-on-year. Searches for tidal pools and freshwater swimming are also up 81% and 53% respectively.

Brockwell Lido's Appeal

Brockwell Lido closed in 1990 but reopened four years later after a local campaign. It combines heritage charm with modern facilities and a lively atmosphere, popular with families, fitness enthusiasts, and sunseekers. The lido offers a pizza restaurant, gym, sauna, and exercise classes.

Other Top Contenders

Stoney Cove in Leicestershire jumped from seventh to second place with 67.18 out of 100. The former quarry, spring-fed and spanning 13 acres, is a world-class inland diving and watersports venue with an on-site restaurant and safety support including rescue-boat patrols and qualified first aiders.

Tooting Bec Lido in south London came third. At 91 metres long, it is the UK's largest manmade freshwater pool and one of the oldest, having first opened in 1906. Surrounded by Tooting Bec Common, it offers a scenic backdrop and plenty of space to dry off.
