Local hero Tommy Fleetwood, born three miles away, called it "one of the best courses in the world" and "very arguably the best Open venue."

Scottie Scheffler, the defending champion after his four-shot win at Royal Portrush in 2025, aims to become the first repeat winner since Ernie Els in 2012.
