Rupert Grint is returning to the Harry Potter universe nearly two decades after he last portrayed Ron Weasley. The 38-year-old actor will reprise his role in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for a strictly limited 17-week run.
Return to the Stage
Grint, who played Harry Potter's best friend across all eight films, will join the production at New York's Lyric Theatre from February 2, 2027. He described his return to Ron as a 'full-circle' moment, particularly given that he is now a father himself.
'Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can't wait to meet him again in this stage of life,' he said. 'There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron's shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new.'
Previous Stage Experience
Grint previously made his Broadway debut in It's Only a Play, starring alongside Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. He also featured in Jez Butterworth's Mojo in London's West End, alongside Ben Whishaw, Brendan Coyle, Colin Morgan and Daniel Mays.
Set 19 years after the events of the original Harry Potter books, Cursed Child follows Harry, Ron and Hermione as adults, alongside their children. The show is celebrating 10 years in London's West End this year and has enjoyed a major resurgence on Broadway.
Cast Transition
Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, recently featured in the West End show. However, his run ends on January 3, 2027, with Grint due to begin almost a month later on February 2.
