Prizeland is the standout selection in the British EBF Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes (4.10) on the second day of the Ebor Festival at York, with tipsters recommending a 1pt each-way bet at 12-1. Most bookmakers are paying out on four places.
The filly has a progressive profile, having won two all-weather novice races. While she has not yet won in Listed class, she has faced strong opposition. Her second-place finish behind Cameo in the Lingfield Oaks Trial was a solid first attempt at this level, and she improved when again finishing runner-up in the Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton.
Prizeland's stamina advantage
The winner of the Glasgow Stakes, Superior Choice, is considered a potential top-class horse, and Prizeland's proven stamina over 1m4f is seen as an advantage, as some of her rivals are tackling the distance for the first time.
Other selections on the card
Cerulean Bay (3.00) returns to York after finishing second in the same race 12 months ago. He has run well in competitive handicaps this year, including a second over course and distance in May and a second in the Golden Mile at Glorious. His Shergar Cup disappointment is considered excusable as he reared when the stalls opened. A 1pt each-way bet at 20-1 is recommended, with most firms offering five places.
Mirzimaan (4.45) won a big-field Newbury novice race on his second start in July, showing inexperience but promise. He was beaten a shorthead under a penalty on the all-weather at Southwell, and despite finding trouble, he finished strongly. The step up to 7f for the first time is expected to bring improvement. A 1pt each-way bet at 12-1 is advised, with a couple of bookies paying six places.
Oolong Poobong (5.20) had little chance from a low draw in the Kensington Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on her second start of the season. She showed promise last year and, while running well over a mile, her last victory came over 7f. A 1pt each-way bet at 16-1 is recommended, with Sky Bet offering six places.
