Newcastle v Strasbourg: TV channel and kick-off time

Newcastle United play their second pre-season friendly of the weekend on Sunday, welcoming French side Strasbourg to St James' Park. The match kicks off at 4pm and is being shown only on the club's internal channel, NUFC TV.

Jaissle's second home game

This is new head coach Matthias Jaissle's second game on home turf, following Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. The German side edged the Magpies in a tight contest, and Jaissle will be looking for a sharper display in the final third after his team struggled to create chances.

Newcastle's season opener against Liverpool is just a week away, making this fixture an important opportunity for players to get vital minutes and for the new boss to assess his squad.

Strasbourg's summer changes

Strasbourg narrowly missed out on European football this season and have lost several key players during the transfer window. Notably, Valentin Barco and Emanuel Emegha have signed for sister club Chelsea, weakening the French side's squad.

Captain's honour

Dan Burn, recently named permanent captain, spoke of his pride in the role: "It's an absolute honour to be named captain of Newcastle United. It's always an immense privilege to represent this football club, especially when I have been trusted with the armband on previous occasions, but to lead the team on a permanent basis is going to be really special."

Jaissle also commented on his leadership plans: "All the other positions I will take my time as first of all we are not that long here as a coaching staff. I want to get to know the players much better. There is still the transfer window and at one point there will also be leadership group involved with more names."
