Manchester United's in-house MUTV coverage of the pre-season match against AC Milan briefly went off air, leaving viewers with a blank screen before a picture of the stadium appeared. Commentator Sam Matterface was heard saying: "What do we do here? We've got no pictures."
Fan Reactions on Social Media
Fans took to social media to express their frustration. One said: "MUTV coverage is absolutely awful today, topped off with the 'what do you want us to do here' from Matterface when they lost pictures #MUFC." Another added: "Haha! MUTV Sam Matterface asking 'what do we do here, we've got no pictures'."
Some fans also commented on the commentary audio. One wrote: "Incredible hearing a commentary team when they take away the stadium noise, sounds like they're in a tiny booth!"
International Viewers' Complaints
Fans outside the UK were unhappy about not being able to watch the game. One said: "MUTV is ridiculous, you know. I'm paying for it and I can't even watch the game because I'm outside the UK. What's the point of having it then? #mufc." Another added: "Nice of MUTV to let people know they won't be showing the game outside of UK and Ireland 5 mins before kick off."
Other viewers questioned the availability, with one asking: "Is this not on MUTV?? It says commentary only?" Another said: "Why am I subscribing to MUTV if you won't show me the preseason games that you're showing UK and Ireland subscribers? Really disappointing."
Match Action
The game saw United face former manager Ruben Amorim's AC Milan in their final pre-season match before the Premier League return. Harry Maguire opened the scoring for Michael Carrick's side in the second minute. The teams went in level at half-time after Samuel Chukweze equalised and Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty. Patrick Dorgu gave United the lead after the break, capitalising on slack play from Milan's defence.
United's Premier League campaign begins next Saturday away against newly-promoted Hull City, with a 12.30pm kick-off.
