Manager's pre-match message

Rangers manager Derek McInnes stressed the importance of playing to win rather than protecting the lead: "For obvious reasons, European football is so important to the club, both financially but also for the prestige element of it. Being able to perform and represent the club in Europe is something that's very important to us."

"We have to try and play to win. It's important the players recognise that, that we're not just going out to try and protect a 1-0 lead, because the biggest danger of that is it comes back to bite you," he added.

Team news and context

Defender Ben Godfrey, who has not played since the end of July, has travelled with the squad and could feature. Midfielder Nick Raskin is not in the squad amid transfer interest in the Belgium international.

Reaching the league phase is vital for Rangers, who were knocked out of Europa League qualifying by Jagiellonia Bialystok. The Conference League represents their last hope of European football this season, and last week's first-leg win was only McInnes' second victory since taking over the club this summer.
