Warren Zaire-Emery, a French World Cup star, may be separated from his teammates due to a strict local law in the United States. France has chosen to base themselves at the luxurious Four Seasons hotel in Boston for their final group fixture, rather than an isolated retreat. The five-star hotel offers extensive amenities, including a wellness floor and swimming pools. However, the 20-year-old Zaire-Emery will be barred from entering the Aujourd'hui Bar because Massachusetts state law prohibits anyone under 21 from accessing an establishment that serves alcohol but not food, even if accompanied by an adult and not drinking.
Legal Restrictions and Team Dynamics
It remains unclear how rigidly the regulation will be enforced, given that Didier Deschamps' squad is unlikely to engage in alcohol-fuelled sprees during the tournament. The Aujourd'hui Bar is adjacent to the restaurant of the same name, making it awkward to separate Zaire-Emery from his colleagues. He does not turn 21 until March. His PSG teammate Desire Doue, who turned 21 on June 3, is not affected by the law.
France's Tournament Preparations
France's decision to stay in a city centre hotel is a notable departure from their secluded locations at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. They are drawn in Group I alongside Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. France begins their campaign against Senegal in New Jersey on Tuesday, followed by Iraq in Philadelphia on June 22 and Norway in Boston on June 26. This tournament marks the end of Deschamps' illustrious tenure as manager.
Deschamps, who won the World Cup as both a player and manager, has been linked with the vacant Italy post. Italy failed to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup. France's talisman, Kylian Mbappe, is eager to send Deschamps off in style. Mbappe said, "The best way to pay tribute to him is to win because he loves to win. We're going to make sure he has the best of the recent World Cups. Hopefully, it will be his last because I hope he doesn't play for another team."
