England completed their World Cup preparations in emphatic fashion with a 6-0 victory over Miami FC in a behind-closed-doors friendly in Florida. The Three Lions have spent the last ten days acclimatising to the heat and humidity, recording wins against New Zealand and Costa Rica without conceding a goal.
Second-half dominance
After a goalless first half, England scored five times after the break to secure a comprehensive win. Ivan Toney was the star performer, netting a hat-trick including a spectacular long-range effort described as a 'worldie'. Jordan Henderson, Ethan Nwaneri, and Rio Ngumoha also found the net. Nwaneri and Ngumoha were called up to bolster training numbers and will not feature in the tournament proper.
Key players rested
Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham were among those rested after playing in the 3-0 win over Costa Rica. Thomas Tuchel's side emerged without any fresh injury concerns, a major boost ahead of their Group L opener against Croatia on Wednesday 17 June in Dallas.
Injury update on Bukayo Saka
Tuchel confirmed that Bukayo Saka is still managing an Achilles injury that sidelined him for six games at Arsenal in April. 'We have to take care with Bukayo. He made himself available and was brilliant, but we are building him up gradually,' the England head coach said.
