Alun Wyn Jones returns for Jimmy Crackers 7s at Mumbles RFC

Wales and Lions greats Alun Wyn Jones, Dwayne Peel and James Hook will all lace up their boots this weekend as part of a star-studded event in Swansea. The Jimmy Crackers' 7s tournament at Mumbles RFC has been running for over 30 years, and last year it introduced a new competition in addition to the traditional 7s tournament.

Over-35 competition draws former stars

The over-35 competition saw a number of former Wales and Lions stars take to the field last year, with a similar story expected this year. Twelve local employers have entered teams into the over-35 touch tournament on Saturday, August 29.

Building on the success of last year's inaugural tournament, there's a host of new former players involved. Last year's winners, Allchurch and Co, have added former Wales and Ospreys fly-half Hook to their ranks.

New additions to the teams

Kate Rees Elite Physiotherapy have not only added former Scarlets and Wales scrum-half Peel to their side, but ex-Wales 7s international and current Mumbles head coach Lloyd Evans as well as Scarlets coach Aaron Dunton. Evans isn't the only former Wales 7s international involved, with Lee Williams, Aled Brew and Richie Pugh all playing.

Veezu's team will be managed by Wales legend Jonathan 'Jiffy' Davies, with the company having already been a key sponsor for the dual-code icon's charity bike rides. There's also an ex-Ospreys team, which not only includes new Ospreys board member and Test rugby's record cap holder Jones, but former Wales international Matthew Morgan.

Tournament schedule

The 12 teams are split into three groups, with group matches taking place across two pitches from 2pm. The finals evening will then begin around 5.20pm, with the Plate Final at 6pm and the Cup Final at 6.20pm.

The weekend begins with Mumbles U8s taking on Waunarlwydd U8s on Friday evening, before the senior team take on Fairford Seniors. Then, on Saturday morning, there's girls touch rugby 7s for the first time ever, as well as U5s, U6s and U7s mini-games too. Sunday is the main event, with the Cracker 7s tournament taking place.
