Joshua Zirkzee's January Transfer Battle as World Cup Hopes Hang in Balance
Zirkzee's transfer preference as Everton and West Ham eye move

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is at the centre of a major transfer tussle as his World Cup dreams hang in the balance. The Dutch international has become frustrated with his lack of playing time under manager Ruben Amorim and could depart in the January window.

Italian Giants Make First Move

Roma have taken the initiative in the race to sign the 24-year-old forward, having already made contact with both Manchester United and Zirkzee's representatives about a potential loan deal. The Italian club believes the player would be open to returning to Serie A, where he previously made his name with Bologna.

Their proposed deal includes a loan switch with an option to make the move permanent, contingent on both appearances and whether Roma qualify for European football next season.

Premier League Competition and World Cup Ambitions

Roma face significant competition for Zirkzee's signature, with Everton and West Ham United both showing serious interest as they seek to strengthen their attacking options. PSV Eindhoven and Juventus have also emerged as potential destinations if United sanction a loan move.

The situation is particularly urgent for Zirkzee, who has won six caps for the Netherlands but now faces being frozen out of the national team setup due to his club situation. He is increasingly anxious about securing sufficient game time to ensure his place in Holland's World Cup squad.

Limited Opportunities at Old Trafford

Zirkzee's frustration stems from his limited role under Amorim this season. The Dutchman has yet to start a single Premier League match and finds himself well down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

While an opportunity could emerge if fellow striker Benjamin Sesko suffers an injury, the Slovenian's current issue is not thought to be serious. United's manager has also shown reluctance to allow players to leave if it leaves his squad short of options.

Everton have been heavily linked with alternative targets including Ivan Toney, while PSV are considering making a firm offer for Zirkzee. However, the forward may ultimately prefer a return to Italy, where he believes guaranteed playing time would better serve his World Cup ambitions.
