Jobe Bellingham is closing in on a summer switch to Borussia Dortmund, with the 19-year-old midfielder reportedly agreeing to the move. The transfer, valued at around £25 million, would see him follow in the footsteps of his older brother Jude, who rose to prominence at the German club.
Bellingham, who helped Sunderland earn promotion to the Premier League last month, has decided to leave the Black Cats despite interest from other Bundesliga sides, including Eintracht Frankfurt. Borussia Dortmund are now in advanced talks with Sunderland over a deal for the England Under-21 international.
Should the transfer be completed, Jobe Bellingham could face his brother Jude at the FIFA Club World Cup, where Borussia Dortmund will compete alongside Jude's club Real Madrid. The tournament, featuring 32 teams, is scheduled to take place later this month.
Dortmund are reportedly willing to allocate the majority of their limited budget to secure Bellingham's signature, believing he is capable of forging his own legacy at the club. The move would come as a significant blow to Sunderland, who are preparing for their return to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.
The Black Cats will also lose Tommy Watson, who agreed to join Brighton in the spring and will start the 2025-26 campaign as a Seagulls player.
