Tottenham set for £3.4m windfall as Parrott transfer nears

Tottenham Hotspur are set to receive a significant financial windfall of approximately £3.4m from the sell-on clause included in Troy Parrott's 2024 transfer to AZ Alkmaar, as the striker nears a move to Real Betis.

Parrott's rise in the Eredivisie

Parrott joined AZ Alkmaar in 2024 for £6.7m, with Spurs negotiating a reported 20 per cent sell-on fee. The former Spurs striker impressed in the Netherlands, scoring 10 goals in his first seven matches before a knee ligament injury in August sidelined him until October. He returned strongly, netting 16 goals in 28 fixtures and helping the Republic of Ireland secure a World Cup play-off spot.

Advanced talks with Real Betis

Real Betis are reportedly in advanced negotiations with AZ Alkmaar over a £17.1m transfer for Parrott. West Ham United had a £15m offer turned down earlier this summer, falling below Alkmaar's £25m valuation, which would have netted Spurs £5.1m if met in full. Betis are now favourites to secure Parrott, beating FC Porto and RB Leipzig to his signature.

Teammate's revelation

BBC Sport reports that an agreement between Betis and Alkmaar is nearing completion. The news comes after Parrott's AZ teammate Mexx Meerdink hinted at his departure following a 4-1 victory over FC Utrecht, in which Parrott sat out with a suspected minor injury. Meerdink said: "It is a shame that he is leaving us, but for me it is a great opportunity to prove myself. He deserves a good move. Hopefully he can make a good move. And then it will be my time. Am I getting a big head? No way, I'll just stay true to myself."

Spurs' busy summer

The financial boost would help Roberto De Zerbi's squad in the closing weeks of the transfer window. Spurs have been active this summer, with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka arriving. They have also recouped funds from the departures of Djed Spence, Cristian Romero, Will Lankshear, Luka Vuskovic, Alfie Devine, Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz and Manor Solomon on permanent deals.
