Swansea's Almeida Deal in Doubt as Celta Circle

Swansea City's hopes of signing Andre Almeida are reportedly hanging in the balance, amid alleged late interest from Celta Vigo.

Player's Reluctance

Reports in Spain had previously claimed the Swans had agreed a deal with Valencia to bring the midfielder to SA1. However, the player's own reluctance to play in the Championship has long been cited as the main hurdle in completing a deal.

It had initially been suggested that Almeida would only be interested in a potential loan deal this summer, but Valencia are keen on striking a permanent move and have allegedly urged the player to take the offer from Swansea.

Stance Firm

According to Spanish journalist German Munoz, Almeida has now refused to join, and has 'stood firm' on his stance. Almeida was initially believed to be waiting in case there were any other offers this summer - and he may yet get his wish.

Fellow Spanish journalist Nacho Sanchis claims the player is waiting to see if a proposal from Celta will land, with the Spanish side believed to be taking a late interest. The issue is that Celta will seemingly have to move players along if they are to complete a deal, and no offer is on the table as of yet.

Manager's Admiration

Vitor Matos was asked about possible interest in Almeida at Wednesday's Fans' Forum, and seemingly admitted the 26-year-old was a player he admired, along with striker Ross Stewart.

"The most important thing when we go to transfers is we try to add something that we don't have or something that is related to the quality of the players [we already have]," he said. "Of course Ross and Andre are really good players."

Stewart is poised to be unveiled as a Swansea player soon, but a deal for Almeida looks somewhat further off as things stand. The club are also keen on a move for Senegalese midfielder Ousseynou Fall Seck, although late interest from several other clubs means he's currently assessing his options.
