John Souttar's future at Rangers looks increasingly uncertain, and the 29-year-old Scotland international is reportedly attracting interest from Swansea City.
Swans join the race
According to The Scottish Sun, the Swans have emerged as a possible destination for the centre-back, who earned 24 caps for Scotland and was part of their World Cup squad earlier this summer. Souttar was an unused substitute for all three group games in North America.
Watford and Sheffield United have also been tipped as admirers, while the Daily Record previously suggested Cardiff City could be in the running. Leicester City boss Russell Martin was also believed to have tried to land Souttar, whose brother Harry plays for the Foxes.
Reservations about League One
However, the 24-cap international is believed to have reservations about dropping into League One. Souttar was granted extra time off to consider his future following the World Cup.
He signed a one-year contract extension with Rangers in February, with the club holding an option for an additional 12 months. But new Rangers boss Derek McInnes does not appear to have him in his plans, making a move likely.
Swansea's defensive priorities
Swansea had already addressed their need for a centre-back by signing Celtic's Stephen Welsh, so moving for another defender would be surprising. However, Souttar's pedigree is expected to appeal to the club's recruitment team.
With only 12 months left on his contract and Rangers keen to sell, a deal could be financially favourable, though Rangers are reportedly demanding a seven-figure fee.
Souttar came through the Dundee United academy and spent more than six years at Heart of Midlothian before joining Rangers in summer 2022.
