Sunderland have offered to sign Manchester City winger Jack Grealish on a season-long loan, according to The Athletic. Grealish faces an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium with the prospect of the 30-year-old joining the summer exodus in the North West.
Loan spell at Everton
The England international spent last season on loan at Everton as he looked to reignite his Premier League career after finding first-team football hard to come by under Pep Guardiola. The Toffees didn't take up the £50m buyout clause in the loan agreement, leaving the winger to return to Manchester and fight for a place within Enzo Maresca's side.
The Black Cats, who will be competing in the Europa League this season, have reportedly submitted a loan proposal for the England international. Regis Le Bris's side are said to have put forward a deal that would see the North East club cover a portion of his wages, along with the possibility of a permanent move when his contract expires next summer.
Manchester City clear-out
The summer clear-out at Manchester City is almost over with the transfer window set to close on September 1. John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji, James Trafford, Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders, Savio and Nico Gonzalez have all sought football elsewhere, while Omar Marmoush is close to joining Spurs.
Despite claiming both the Premier League and Champions League with the North West club, his future at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain. Grealish spent last season on loan at Everton, enjoying a revival before an ankle injury brought a promising spell with the Toffees to a premature end.
Maresca's stance
Grealish came on as a second-half substitute for City in their comeback victory over Bournemouth on the Premier League's opening weekend. Maresca's side are reportedly willing to let the winger depart, having already sold Savio to Tottenham Hotspur, with Omar Marmoush set to follow on an initial loan to buy arrangement.
With just six days left in the transfer window, the Aston Villa academy graduate is in a race against time to secure a place in the Italian's plans or find regular first-team football elsewhere. On the 30-year-old's future, Maresca said: "He is here and it is my duty to coach Jack and to try to get the best. Then it is one more week to go and we will see what happens. Not only with Jack but also other players."
