Liverpool are set for a frantic final 24 hours of the summer transfer window, with a host of deals potentially completed before Tuesday's 11pm deadline. The squad could look significantly different by the time the window closes, with both departures and new arrivals on the cards.
The Reds have reportedly landed their long-awaited dream signing in Bradley Barcola, who has signed from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal totalling £123m. That figure is considerably less than the French giants' original asking price.
Barcola deal all but done
Barcola, 23, is expected to be confirmed as a Liverpool player imminently, with an announcement expected today. The deal comprises a £106m commitment plus £17m in add-ons, a significant reduction from the £145m PSG initially demanded. The left winger underwent his medical on Merseyside yesterday.
While it would be catastrophic if the move fell through at this late stage, it is seen as a relative formality compared with the other deals on the list.
Gakpo and Sarr moves in the works
Cody Gakpo is the deal most likely to materialise before the window closes, with Manchester City overtaking Tottenham in the race to sign the Netherlands international. The Athletic reported on Saturday that Gakpo favours the move as the two clubs open talks. The Dutchman would likely serve as back-up to Erling Haaland, with Liverpool reportedly receiving £85m, though the transfer may depend on finding an adequate replacement.
Ismaila Sarr is another potential arrival, with Liverpool having reportedly submitted a £50m bid for the Crystal Palace forward. According to Fabrizio Romano, all parties are still in discussions. The Senegal international, who turns 29 in February, is older than Liverpool would ideally want in a Mohamed Salah replacement, but the club is in a desperate position. Brighton's Yankuba Minteh had been a target, but a reported £60m offer was rejected, with the Gambian said to cost £80m.
McConnell, Chiesa and Fernandez Pardo
James McConnell's future could be decided by Iraola, with the 21-year-old reportedly close to joining Preston on a season-long loan after a spell at Ajax. The Daily Mail reports Iraola would prefer to keep the midfielder, especially after Curtis Jones moved to Inter Milan.
Federico Chiesa could also leave, with a return to Serie A most likely and Bologna emerging as the latest interested party. However, FootMercato reports Chiesa has turned down interest from Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Roma, Como and Fiorentina to fight for his Anfield future.
Matias Fernandez Pardo of Lille is a potential Gakpo replacement, offering a similar profile in terms of physicality and versatility. TEAMtalk reports Newcastle lead the chase, but Arsenal or Liverpool could intervene. The forward, suspended for Lille's opening games, has reportedly asked to leave and is priced at £60m.
Elliott's future unresolved
Harvey Elliott's future also needs resolving, with Valencia, Napoli and Lazio credited with interest. Valencia have agreed terms with the player, according to Romano, but Liverpool would prefer to sell the midfielder, who has less than 12 months on his contract, while most suitors are reportedly interested in loans.
