Benjamin Sesko has shown remarkable respect for Rasmus Hojlund by refusing to take the No.9 shirt at Manchester United. The 22-year-old Slovenian striker joined the Red Devils in a deal worth up to £74 million in August and was immediately installed as the first-choice striker.
Hojlund, who cost United £72 million two years ago, fell down the pecking order and was eventually loaned to Napoli on transfer deadline day. However, at the time of Sesko's arrival, the loan was far from confirmed. According to The Athletic, United considered allowing Sesko to wait until Hojlund's departure to choose his number, but Sesko opted to take the No.30 shirt out of respect for his then-teammate.
Sesko, who has been in fine form under Michael Carrick, may get the opportunity to claim the No.9 shirt this summer. Napoli are obligated to sign Hojlund permanently for £38 million if they qualify for the Champions League. The Serie A side currently sit third in the table.
Hojlund has suggested he is keen to stay at Napoli, having won the Italian Super Cup and scored 13 goals in 34 games. He told Italian publication Il Mattino: 'I'm not in the centre, but I'm dying to explore the alleys and heart of Naples... I sense the incredible energy the city exudes.'
