Rashford to hold talks with Carrick as exit options narrow

Marcus Rashford is still keen to leave Manchester United, but his options for staying in the Premier League appear limited, which could push him toward another move abroad.

The 28-year-old forward has returned to pre-season training at Carrington after his post-World Cup break. He plans to hold talks with manager Michael Carrick once the squad returns from Dublin, where they face Leeds United in a friendly on Wednesday night.

United's stance on Rashford's future

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants Rashford off the wage bill but is unwilling to sell him to main rivals Arsenal, Liverpool, or Manchester City. Loan moves to Chelsea, Aston Villa, or Tottenham have been ruled out, as United bosses would find it embarrassing if Rashford helped any of those clubs secure a Champions League place this season.

Rashford would prefer to find a new club and revive his career elsewhere. He could run down the remaining 24 months of his United contract and leave for free in 2028, or use the upcoming campaign to showcase his talents and secure a dream move in 2027, assuming a buyer emerges.

Strained relationship with hometown club

Rashford believes there has been too much bad blood between him and his hometown club. He knows there is still time in the summer window to negotiate a move that suits him.

He had hoped to make his loan deal with Barcelona permanent, but the Spanish club rejected the option to sign him for £24 million and instead signed Anthony Gordon.

United's other transfer plans

Meanwhile, United are considering opening talks with Club Brugge about a potential £30 million deal for left-back Joaquin Seys. They have been priced out of a move for England and Newcastle defender Lewis Hall and could turn their attention to Seys instead.
