Rangers are keen on Athletic Bilbao midfielder Benat Gerenabarrena, according to a report. However, the 23-year-old is now said to be a big part of new boss Edin Terzic's plans at the San Mames Stadium.
Rangers' interest and competition
AS Diario report that Rangers, Racing Santander, Olympiacos, Almeria, Castellon and other clubs from Italy, Belgium, England and the MLS have all expressed an interest in the playmaker.
Gerenabarrena is a product of Athletic Bilbao's renowned youth academy but has yet to make a senior appearance for the club, spending the whole of last season out on loan at second tier side Castellon.
Contract situation and Terzic's plans
Gerenabarrena is into the final 12 months of his contract at Athletic but the Basque giants have the option to extend that deal by a further two years.
However, he is set to be given a chance at first team level by former Borussia Dortmund manager Terzic, having been used prominently during The Lions' pre-season schedule.
