Monza and Parma have reportedly submitted bumper bids for Rangers winger Djeidi Gassama, testing the Ibrox club's resolve to keep the 22-year-old.
Italian clubs make their move
Foot Mercato reports that both Italian clubs have put a €7million (£6million) offer on the table for the PSG academy graduate. However, Rangers are said to “expect more” to sell Gassama this summer.
Gassama moved from Sheffield Wednesday last summer for a transfer fee around £2.2 million and was one of the rare hits for former sporting director Kevin Thelwell during his early days at Ibrox.
Mixed campaign and fresh start
The wide man endured a mixed campaign at Ibrox, netting 10 goals in all competitions under Russell Martin and Danny Rohl. This season, he has been given a fresh chance under Derek McInnes and has made a claim to be a regular starter on the flanks during the new era.
McInnes challenge
Speaking earlier this season, McInnes challenged Gassama to stake his claim for a first-team spot, admitting the club was looking to sign more wingers. He said: “We’re continually assessing the squad, but that key position on the right-hand side is pivotal for us.
“Djeidi Gassama has the potential to be what we want here and we’re just looking for that a bit more often.
“He didn’t really play in his natural position for a long period last season.
“If he wants to play from that left-hand side, he’s got to understand what comes with that, like the responsibility to get up and down the pitch and produce at the right moments.”
