Rangers are edging closer to an agreement to sign Girona winger Kim Min-Su after deciding to trigger the £8.5million release clause in the South Korean's contract.
The Ibrox club have spent the last few days weighing up whether to table the bid required to secure the wide man's services in Spain. Now Record Sport understands they have decided to push the button on the deal rather than look elsewhere, with a medical booked for Monday.
Boost for McInnes
If completed, the signing will come as a massive boost to boss Derek McInnes, who has been crying out for fresh attacking talent since taking over in Govan two months ago. Min-Su had been among a list of names being considered by technical director Dan Purdy and chief executive Jim Gillespie.
Now the men leading Rangers' recruitment hunt have recommended to McInnes that they should press ahead with a move for the highly-rated 20-year-old Asian ace. Agreeing personal terms with the versatile frontman will be no obstacle and Gers are confident he'll become their 12th new arrival of the summer.
Final Girona appearance
This latest development comes just hours after Min-Su starred in what could be his final game for Girona, a 76-minute runout in a 2-1 defeat away to Cordoba. McInnes is now looking forward to integrating the exciting attacker - who prefers to play off the left but can operate on the opposite side or off the front - into his squad.
However, he'll have to wait to make his debut, with Min-Su ineligible for Thursday night's Conference League play-off return clash against Czech side Jablonec, who Gers lead 1-0 from the first leg in Glasgow.
Career path
Min-Su joined Girona in 2022 and has made over 70 appearances for their B team in the Spanish lower leagues. He was promoted to their first team in 2024, making two LaLiga appearances and another in the Champions League before being sent to FC Andorra last term, where he turned out 40 times for the Segunda Division outfit. There he scored six times and laid on another four assists.
Girona had big plans for him to be a key player this season but were also bracing themselves for offers having received expressions of interest from a number of teams. But it's Rangers who have moved first after deciding he represents better value for money than some of their other targets.
Record Sport revealed on Thursday that Gers have opened talks with Besiktas over a potential return to Glasgow for Vaclav Cerny. The finances involved in that deal make it unlikely but sources at Ibrox say conversations with the Turkish giants are still "on going".
